Details

This work is an exceedingly rare sumi and graphite drawing on paper depicting Jungfrau. This original drawing is clearly a finished draft of the design and bears a very close resemblance to the completed work also offered here It is also interesting to note the subtle difference in the drawing as compared to the finished design. As such, this drawing is an important original piece that documents Hiroshi Yoshida’s artistic process at work. The drawing showcases the artist’s fluid and energetic lines that animate the composition and anticipate the drama of the finished print.

Connoisseur's Note

This original drawing is an exceedingly rare work. This piece was originally acquired by a collector with direct contact with the Yoshida family. The artist did not often offer prep work for finished designs such as this piece. The drawing bears the artist's distinctive red seal used on all his prints in the lower-left corner.
