Details

Known as the artist of light, Koitsu provides a subdued view of this temple complex in the rain. The drama of the design is the masterful use of light that is filtered throughout. It seems as if Koitsu gives free rein to the light sources emanating from the temple’s interior and the hand-held lantern. Light skips with an exciting pulse as it glances and ignites the variety of wet surfaces throughout the design.

Connoisseur's Note

This early, first state, bears the Doi publisher’s seal along with the carver printer seal of Katsumura and Goto. The series stamp, on the right margin, was only included on the earliest printings for this series. The print is in an exceedingly fine state of preservation with sharp and vivid colors—one of the finest first state impressions of this design known.
