In this piece, Hasui presents us with the brilliance only his night scenes can provide. Its chief focus is the rising full moon, and all elements within the design celebrate this moment. The moon’s light expands from the upper center and unfolds in myriads of tonalities of blue. Whether it is the darkest blue mixed with purple found among the mysterious trees, the bluish-green of the budding rice paddy or the yellowish-blue of carefully constructed irrigation ditches, each component in the scene reflects and enhances some aspect of the moon’s light in almost symphonic harmony. The viewer is left marveling at such a view of the moon.

This print is an early first-state impression of a post-war design that bears the printer's seal, (Suri) Ono Gintaro. This seal is only present on the earliest impressions executed by this printer, making this print a true time capsule. It was never framed or displayed and was stored in archival boxes.
