Details
In Hasui's woodblock print titled "Evening Shower at Imai Bridge," the tranquil scene is transformed by the onset of a rain shower. The focal point of the composition is the sturdy wooden form of the bridge, which stretches across the river, dividing the landscape. As the rain begins to fall, a solitary figure, shielded beneath a bright yellow umbrella, traverses the bridge's expanse. The woman's presence is only partially visible, her silhouette obscured by the protective railing of the bridge. Despite the downpour, her resolute posture and the vibrant hue of her umbrella stand out amidst the gray ambiance of the rainy evening. Above, swiftly moving gray clouds dominate the sky, releasing torrents of rain that cascade at an angle, mirroring the woman's defensive stance. Below, the lush green foliage and tall summer grasses sway vigorously in the wind and rain, imbuing the scene with a sense of dynamic movement and energy.
