Details
Mabuchi Tooru was a Sosaku Hanga artist who started his career in post-war Japan. A follower of Onchi Koshiro, Mabuchi experimented in a variety of styles but is best known for his mosaic pattern–like designs. Mabuchi is represented in most public institutions with an interest in Sosaku Hanga and post-war Japanese prints.
Despite his popularity, there is no catalogue raisonnéor comprehensive reference on Mabuchi. This beautifully produced reference is the sole publication on the artist’s work. Published in 1998 in a very limited number, this book illustrates 133 woodblock prints in full color, several are rarely seen early designs not known outside this reference. This rare find would stand out in the library of a true Sosaku Hanga collector.
