Details

This rarely offered reference on the Sosaku Hanga artist, Furukawa Ryusei, illustrates nearly 80 prints by this elusive printmaker. Furukawa created self-directed woodblock prints that suited him with little to no regard for commercial concerns and, in so doing, produced work in very low quantities. Therefore, his artwork is scarce and underrepresented in museums and print references, making the works quite necessary to fully appreciate his body of work.

At present there is no complete reference on Furukawa, and as such, those interested in the artist must piece together a catalogue raisonné via four books in order to get the complete picture of the artist’s oeuvre. This reference is an integral part of that formula.
