Details

This is the exhibition catalogue for the recent retrospective on Onchi Koshiro held at The Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo (MOMAT) in 2016. Thus far, this is the best reference on the artist to date. Though it has been exceedingly difficult to compile a complete catalogue raisonné, due in part to the numerous variant states and monoprints the artist produced, this catalogue does an outstanding job nonetheless. This handsome hardcover reference illustrates nearly 300 prints, drawings, paintings, photos, and book designs. All the included works were taken from the world’s top museums and collectors. In a few instances the book illustrates, for the first time, rare monoprints and paintings not previously seen in public. Well-researched essays penned by the world's top scholars in this field provide the artwork with context and in-depth analysis, which is sorely lacking in other references.
