Details

This exhibition catalogue examines Kawanishi Hide and Sankoukai, his artistic circle based in Kobe. Although Kawanishi made a name for himself in printmaking, very little has been published on Sankoukai, which included the artists: Harumura Tadao, Sugato Kasen, Fukui Ichiro, Kanbara Hiroshi, Kitamura Imazo, and Maeda Toshiro, which were all based in or around the city of Kobe. The catalogue contains work by each of these artists and includes correspondence and black-and-white photos of the artists in meetings. The illustrated prints are charming and rarely seen Sosaku Hanga designs focused beyond the confines of the city of Tokyo.
