Details
The Tokyo Station Gallery is well known for producing outstanding exhibitions with high-quality catalogues. This exhibition catalogue on Hiratsuka Un'ichi is no exception. The reference illustrates Hiratsuka's rarely seen early woodblock prints in full color (many other catalogues, unfortunately, illustrate them in black and white) as well as his celebrated black and white designs for which he is most known to have produced.
The quality of the color illustrations is astonishing, appearing nearly identical to the prints themselves. Although the catalogue only handles 150 works, a small percentage of the artist’s output, it does provide an excellent overview of the artist's body of work and would make an ideal addition to a library as the sole reference on Hiratsuka or as an excellent supplement to other books available on this important Sosaku Hanga artist.
