Details

This Fujimori Shizuo exhibition catalogue illustrates 212 works, both woodblock prints and drawings are represented, and as such, is an excellent catalogue raisonné for this important Sosaku Hanga artist. In the 30 short years of his career, Fujimori produced highly expressive and creative designs that were completely his own. A leader in the Sosaku Hanga school of print production, Fujimori advocated for woodblock print artists to carve and print their own artwork themselves. In so doing, Fujimori, along with Onchi and other leaders of the Sosaku Hanga school, fought for the freedom of individualistic artistic expression. The 212 illustrations cataloged in this scarcely seen reference cover his early work with Tsukuhae, print designs for various dojin magazines, the various Sosaku Hanga series he participated in as well as his standalone designs.

This is an essential reference on the artist, as it is the sole publication dedicated to his work. Published in a modest number, this catalogue is exceedingly rare. In 20 years, I've only come across three copies. Its rarity and the incredible showcase of Fujimori’s work make this an invaluable addition to the Sosaku Hanga aficionado's library.
