This catalogue illustrates the first exhibition of its kind, showcasing the rarely seen paintings of Hiroshi Yoshida. Known the world over for his masterful woodblock prints, Yoshida was also an accomplished oil painter and watercolorist who utilized the technique of plein air painting. Yoshida's originals illustrate his fascination with mountainous areas, vast countrysides, and exotic foreign locales. Many of these oil paintings were studies for his woodblock prints, but the artist left a vast legacy of original work that he never developed into prints.
This catalogue illustrates more than one hundred paintings, many never previously exhibited or published, creating a fascinating deep dive into Yoshida's body of work. It is a necessary supplement to his catalogue raisonné published by Abe. This book is a must-have for the Hiroshi Yoshida collector!
