Details
Paul Jacoulet portrays a member of the imperial Chinese court in repose, as he sits comfortably with his eyeglasses in hand. Exquisite detail has been given to the young courtier's elaborate robe, showcasing its intricate embroidery with masterful colors and silver mica highlights throughout. Jacoulet's use of silver mica highlights extend well beyond the robes, as it is used as overprinting in the lenses as well as the charming and intricate carved wallpaper design in the background. In a raking light (see image below), this entire portion executed in silver mica shimmers and further ignites this outstanding design.
Connoisseur's Note
This impression is particularly noteworthy, as it showcases a finer printing quality than other known impressions. This distinction is most evident in the more defined facial hair and sideburns. This light detail was applied to the block by hand and then printed; other impressions lack this finer detail or omit it altogether.
This impression is in an exceedingly fine state of preservation. The colors are sharp and vivid, appearing as fresh as the day this print was executed. This impression is stamped 30/250 on the reverse.
