Details

A lyrical and pulsing composition, Lum illustrates green foliage growing on top of a rocky precipice, with the ocean stretched out in the background, while determined trees reach toward the California sky. The composition is made up of oval organic-like shapes that animate and breathe life into the design. The strong wood grain present in the sky gives the impression of a significant atmospheric quality suggesting filtering sunlight or an ocean breeze.

Point Lobos has long been considered the crown jewel of California’s 280 state parks. This stunning locale is known for its impressive hiking trails and its breathtaking views of the ocean. Lum’s design effectively captures the beauty and revitalizing feeling of an awe-inspiring hike in this stunning region of the United States.

Connoisseur's Note

This print is executed on a relatively thicker type of paper than artists utilized in the 1920s. The work is signed and dated at the bottom. Lum produced this print when she moved to San Francisco. It is the only known design within her body of work that is based on an American subject and, as such, is considered her most sought-after print.
