Details

Mt. Fuji towers majestically above Koitsu’s composition occupying the vast majority of the design. Koistu pays careful attention to Fuji’s imposing form by focusing on the mountain’s distinctive topography and the dynamic interplay of light that is cast on her submit at dusk. Beyond the dramatic hues of crimson and orange, Fuji plays host to a distinctive atmospheric effect caused by the expertly used barren in the printing process. As above, the print design descends into a dark indigo that is ushered in by the gathering night, as seen in this design by the distinctive use of bokashi.

Connoisseur's Note

Although Koitsu mostly worked with Watanabe, this rarely-seen design was published by Baba Nobuhiko in 1938. This work is in an exceptional state of preservation, as the colors are pristine, and the impression is exceptional.
