Details

Tomoo Inagaki is celebrated the world over for his highly imaginative cat designs. His prints run the gamut from charming, whimsical designs to darker, more psychological themes. This work showcases four cats in an interesting pattern-like orientation.

The print is certainly one of the artist’s more playful designs. Each cat is illustrated with its own distinctive facial features. Their looks vary from mild detachment to a mischievous expression. The rendering of the composition has a Pop Art-like quality and recalls the repeating pattern like designs of Andy Warhol. Being a graphic designer, Inagaki was quite aware of Pop Art and most likely fashioned this composition within that context.

Connoisseur's Note

This print is a large-scale limited production work executed in an edition of 50. The artist signed and sealed the print at the lower right. The print is in an excellent state of preservation with sharp and vivid colors.
