Details
A lone egret perched on a snowy branch set against the darkest hour of night, all the while, snow continues to fall. This striking print is one of Shoson's most significant designs. The artist melds a keen eye for observation with a profound artistic prowess. The egret is articulated with great detail, fine lines executed with subtle tones of pink fill out the bird's plumage. The bare willow branches clad with ice and snow have a lyrical quality bringing to mind the organic lines of Art Nouveau. The black matte background has been over-printed several times, providing the print a rich quality and making an appropriate incantation for the visitation of this white sprite of winter.
Connoisseur's Note
This particular impression is noteworthy for the thick deluxe paper used, the exceptional printing, particularly evident in the fine lines and subtle use of pink in the bird’s plumage, as well as the skillful bokashi color gradation in the bough of the tree. This impression also boasts a very full and rich velvet-like background that gives this print richness when admiring it in person.
