Details

Tanaka is known for his spellbinding, intricate landscapes that transport the viewer into a world of nature and magic. The minute detail he achieves within his designs is astonishing, conjuring an entire cosmos within the confines of a sheet of paper. The lifelike realism in Tanaka’s work evokes a profound sense of concentration that is both meditative and poetic.

In this striking composition, Tanaka provides an unusual vantage point, as if the viewer is looking up toward the top portion of a Minka (traditional Japanese farmhouse) while a lone star shines against the stark black of night. The design goes into great detail, showcasing the intricate straw and wood structure with astonishing photorealism.

Connoisseur's Note

This impression is a rare variant with an orange coloration in the thatched roof. The design was produced in a single edition of 100 impressions, including the color variants. As such, these variants number only a dozen or so, making them exceedingly rare.

Tanaka passed away in October 2019. He was a prolific artist, and his striking prints have now become highly sought-after and scarce.
