Details

In Ando Hiroshige's woodblock print titled "Seki," part of the Reisho Tokaido series capturing the stations along the Tokaido road, the artist presents a picturesque winter vista. The scene unfolds against a backdrop of majestic snow-capped hills, their peaks dominating the serene landscape. In the foreground, a solitary tree stands atop a hill, flanking the iconic red Torii gate that marks the entrance to a small Shinto shrine nestled amidst the snowy terrain below. Pilgrims and villagers traverse the landscape, their figures adding dashes of blue and yellow against the pristine white snow. Above, the snow descends in delicate and orderly patterns, mirroring the artful composition and meticulous attention to detail characteristic of Hiroshige's work.
