Details

This simple landscape is surprisingly realistic given that Okiie Hashimoto has pared down the design to its basic form. The slow but steady raindrops create ripples in the pond that animate the design. The green of the lawn seems to strengthen as one lingers with the image. The stones appear abstract, almost place markers for the idea, yet representational with specific attributes and dual aspects of their being. Perhaps this is the very essence of this design, and the secret Hashimoto wishes to convey in a whisper.

Connoisseur's Note

This design is one of Hashimoto's most successful large-scale garden prints. This particular impression is made even more desirable by its pristine condition and vivid colors—a testament to its years of archival storage. It's quite rare to find large-scale work that has never been framed or displayed and has been spared the transgressions of improper framing and fading caused by years of exposure to sunlight. This print is as fresh as the day it was printed.
