Details

A path opens and leads the viewer to the center of a mountain town. Mori’s composition offers the view a weary traveler or pilgrim might have seen on their approach. The right side of the composition appears to be a wall for a temple complex; the smaller structure at left might be a gate or a building associated with the temple. At the center lies the mountain town, with its various homes and structures gripping the hills that lead up to the summit. The composition is executed as an expressionist wash of colors that are soft and defused, granting light full access to Mori’s composition.

Connoisseur's Note

It is exceedingly rare to find original standalone paintings by this 20th-century master. The family kept most of his original work until recently, when the vast majority was donated to institutions, and only a small portion made its way into the marketplace.

This work is mounted on shikishiban presentation board. It is in a fine state of preservation with exceedingly sharp and vivid colors and in overall excellent condition.
